Vegas bound!

I'm heading to Vegas next weekend, (4/4-6). SO looking forward to it! I'm excited to get to the warmth, to see some sun, and of course to play some poker.

I've only been to Vegas once, thanks to my RPT TOC win a couple years back, and I had a blast. I think I slept a grand total of 6 hours the whole weekend, played a ton of poker, and used the profits to see a couple big-ticket shows.

This is going to be a bit of a different trip, though -- I'm going with my girlfriend. On her suggestion. She loves going to Vegas -- though it's still not entirely clear to me why: she plays nickel-slots, can never get the hand signals right in black jack, doesn't play poker, and rarely drink (and almost never to excess). She does like the shopping, and the 'vibe.' OK.

She likes going to strip clubs, too. So we're going to one of 'em -- not sure which yet. The big name ones are only topless, and she's interested in full-nude. No, I'm not kidding.

Should be fun. We're staying at the Luxor; hopefully it's nice. Don't know whether they have a poker room or not, but it's just down the block from MGM which I've heard is great for low-limit action. And a walk up to Caesar's or Venetian is definitely not out of the question.

I have no idea how many ppl actually read my blog, but if you have low-limit ($1/$2 or $1/$3 NL) poker room suggestions, please let me know.

The Softest Rooms (in no particular order):

1. MGM. $1/$2 NLH. The money comes easy - for the longest time, I never had a losing session there. Drink service is generally pretty quick. The only annoying part is that the poker room is on the other side of the Centrifuge Bar (it pumps loud, annoying
music once every half hour or so).

2. Mandalay. $1/$2 NLH. Very easily accessible from Luxor. If you had to choose between Luxor and Mandalay, definitely go to Mandalay. Games tend to be very soft. One of the places on the Strip that offers high hand jackpots (but there is an extra $1 rake for the jackpot).

3. Imperial Palace. $1/$2 NLH. Tends to be drunken craziness. It's a dingy poker room (sometimes they only have $2/$4 limit), but there tends to be more dead money per square foot than most other rooms. IP also has high hand jackpots. They also do a promo where if your aces or kings get cracked in the morning, you get some sort of monetary prize.

4. Mirage. $1/$2 NLH. I've only played NLH there a couple of times, but there is a pretty high young aggro doucherocket factor. This tends to equate to profit in my book, but sometimes the action can be hit or miss.

The Big Rooms:

5. Bellagio. $1/$2 NLH. Bellagio just started spreading $1/$2 NLH last November/December (it used to be that $2/$5 NLH was their lowest, but the state of the economy changed that). The comps and the service are kinda non-existent. The other annoying thing is that they STILL have a paper system for the table lists. That generally leads to people hovering around the podium to see how long the wait is. If you're planning to play Bellagio, get there early. Also, expect your chair to be bumped into thousands of times because the room is really cramped.

6. Caesars. $1/$3 NLH has a $500 max BI, making it one of the deeper
stacked low-stakes games on the Strip (other than Wynn). For some
reason though, the $1/$3 blinds make it play more like a soft
Borgata-like $2/$5. Caesars has the WORST rake structure on the Strip. The play at Caesars tends to be a mix of tourists and locals. I like the fact that the poker room is completely segregated from the rest of the casino (although on the weekends it gets crowded outside of the poker room because there is a nightclub next to the poker room entrance).

7. Venetian. $1/$2 NLH. This is my absolute favorite poker room. It feels the most like the Borgata in terms of big cushy chairs, ample space between tables,
etc. Always good action at $1/$2 NLH. (If you're bored, you can read about some of my sessions there.) Venetian will be running the Deep Stack Extravaganza series while you're there, so that will help drive action into the cash games. Venetian has the best tournament structures around. In addition to the noon Deep Stack tournaments, they will do a 7pm $120 buy-in tournament. Best value you can find for a tournament of that buy-in.

8. Wynn. $1/$3 NLH, capped at $500. Generally good action, but I would rank it as one of the tougher $1/$2 - $1/$3 games on the Strip. The poker room is very nice and the staff are all incredibly friendly. Tends to draw a lot more regulars than some of the other rooms - probably because it is set off from the casino floor.

If I had to do a must-see list, here's what I would suggest:

1. Venetian
2. MGM
3. Imperial Palace
4. Wynn
5. Mandalay

All of the full nude strip clubs are alcohol-free, but it sounds like your GF isn't really a big drinker.

Enjoy!

CK is right, as usual.
I repeat Riggs' request for a full trip report. I live vicariously through those able to get to Vegas.
